As the clock strikes midnight on December 31st, millions of people set ambitious goals for the year ahead. Yet studies show that 80% of New Year’s resolutions fail by February. Why? Because resolutions are often built on fleeting motivation rather than sustained purpose and alignment with our why and core values.
Real, lasting change isn’t about a single moment—it’s about an ongoing commitment to growth, guided by your why.
For me, my why is simple: "To spark curiosity, so we are inspired to become the best version of ourselves." This guiding purpose keeps me focused not just at the start of the year but every single day. Personal growth doesn’t happen in a straight line, and it doesn’t fit neatly into a 12-month timeline. It’s a continuous process of reflection, recalibration, and action.
The Role of Values in Sustained Growth
When we align personal change with our values, it becomes more than a checklist—it becomes who we are. My values—Adventure, Curiosity, Dependability, Excellence, and Kindness—serve as the compass for my journey.
Adventure encourages me to step outside my comfort zone and embrace the unknown, fueling growth through new experiences.
Curiosity drives my passion to learn, ask questions, and explore innovative ideas.
Dependability keeps me grounded and ensures I follow through on commitments to myself and others.
Excellence motivates me to strive for my best in every endeavor, no matter how small.
Kindness reminds me to lead with compassion and support others in their own journeys of growth.
By anchoring growth in these values, I avoid the trap of setting goals that fizzle out. Instead, I create meaningful milestones that evolve with me throughout the year.
Making Growth a Year-Round Journey
Here are a few ways to embrace personal growth all year round:
Reflect Regularly: Take time each month to assess where you are and what you’ve learned.
Set Micro Goals: Break down big aspirations into small, achievable actions.
Reconnect with Your Why: Let your purpose and values guide your decisions.
Growth isn’t tied to a date—it’s tied to your willingness to challenge yourself daily.
