5 Sparks to Fuel Your Week: A Better Question for Graduation Season

It’s graduation season—and while many are asking “Where are you going to college?” or “What career do you want?”—I think we’re missing an opportunity to ask something more meaningful.
In this week's "5 Sparks", I share why self-awareness (through the lens of Emergenetics) matters now more than ever—and offer four powerful questions every graduate can ask themselves as they begin to shape the legacy they want to leave behind.

Spark #1 - Quote of the Week

Careers change. Purpose evolves. But your impact? That’s yours to define. - Rebecca Baybayan

Spark #2 - Thought for the Week

Graduation season is here—a time filled with achievement, transition, and the classic question: What do you want to be? But what if we asked something more expansive?

What if we helped young people define their lives not by a job title, but by the impact they want to make? Our legacy isn’t built in one big decision—it’s shaped in the small, intentional steps we take toward the world we want to create.

This week, I invite you to reframe your questions—not just for graduates, but for yourself: What kind of legacy are you building?

Spark #3 - Leadership Resource Spotlight

Emergenetics isn’t just for seasoned leaders—it’s a powerful tool for youth, aged 10-17, too. By understanding their thinking and behavioral preferences, young people can develop greater self-awareness, stronger communication skills, and healthier relationships. It helps them make choices grounded in who they are—not just what’s expected.

As a Certified Emergenetics Youth Facilitator, I’ve seen firsthand how this tool, coupled with intentional coaching, can spark confidence and clarity in the next generation.

Spark #4 - Wanderlust Wisdom

I’ve always believed that travel mirrors life—not because of the destinations we reach, but because of what the journey teaches us along the way. When we travel, we step into the unfamiliar, navigate uncertainty, and adapt to new perspectives. Life is no different. We’re constantly learning, adjusting, and discovering who we are through each experience.

As my daughter graduated and stepped into her next chapter, I couldn’t help but compare it to the feeling I get before a big trip—like my upcoming solo adventure to Machu Picchu. There’s anticipation. There’s uncertainty. And there’s the quiet, steady confidence that the path will unfold as we move forward.

We don’t need to know every stop along the way. What matters is how we show up—with curiosity, courage, and a clear sense of our values to guide each step. Whether we’re boarding a plane or beginning a new chapter, the most meaningful journeys ask us: Who are you becoming?

Spark #5 - Take Action

This week, set aside some quiet time for you or your graduate and reflect on the following questions:
  1. 🧠 Analytical – What problems in the world matter deeply to me, and how might I help solve them?
  2. 🧠 Structural – What systems could I improve to create a better experience for others?
  3. 🧠 Social – Who do I feel called to serve or uplift—and how can I begin?
  4. 🧠 Conceptual – If I imagined a better future shaped by my ideas, what would it look like?

    Whether you’re 18 or 98, it’s never too early—or too late—to ask bigger questions.
